Launch of a new research program in the Larvotto MPA

With the Baited Remote Underwater Video System (BRUVS) technology developed by Blue Abacus, we conducted two campaigns, one during the warm season (July 2023) and the other during the cold season (January 2024), to monitor fish assemblages in the Larvotto MPA (Monaco). This project is carried out in collaboration with the “Association Monégasque pour la Protection de la Nature“, the Blue Abacus Society and supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and Community Jameel.

This fish assemblage evaluation program has allowed us to explore deeper sandy-muddy habitats located between 30 and 50 meters deep, both inside and outside the boundaries of the Larvotto MPA.

This baited remote underwater video system complements the monitoring we have already implemented in Posidonia oceanica meadows and artificial rocky substrates to evaluate fish assemblages.

The results of these campaigns will soon be available and will provide valuable information on the effectiveness of the protection measures implemented in the Larvotto MPA.
